If you think retirement is all about leisure, then Ruth’s story will surprise you.

Ruth cared for animals working with the cunning Sam, bringing joy and chaos to care homes.
But when Ruth takes her long-awaited retirement, she soon becomes listless and drifts into volunteering, only to find that those she wants to help often know more than she does.

During swimming sessions, Ruth meets Amy whose life has been jogging along looking after Mother and grabbing a little happiness where she can. When Amy's life is complicated by a new romantic interest, her dilemmas deepen.

Next-door neighbour Frank shuffles aimlessly into old age, his daughter is far away in Australia. In a bid to create an interest in his life he meets Daisy who is looking for something other than love.

Ruth's friend Clarissa, with Scandinavian good looks and wealth, seems to have everything, but some things money cannot buy.

How will their stories end? It's not what you think.
